The Atoll of Gūr, 310AE (After Evha).
The nomads are as they sound, people that drift and move throughout Gūr, trading what they can get their hands on, or small crafts they make on the trail. They are excellent Armor smiths and are renowned for their excellent oxen leather pieces, embroidered, gilded and strong.
The Nomads sometimes splinter and defect on the trail, forging small settlements in strange parts of Gūr's wilderness. These settlements often rely on the Tyressi family for protection against bandits they cannot handle and thus enter debt they can't repay. Sometimes this can lead to universally condemned slaughter - such as the Grath-Bauu massacre of 285AE, which caused the entire city of Grath-Bauu, a nomad founded city that turned into a multi-cultural vibrant hub, to be razed to ash. It's ruins still stand today.
The Evici (Nomads that tend to feel more comfortable on the sandy coast
The Maarki-Suuli (Nomads that stick to the temperate forests, keen hunters that stay hidden, tend to travel only on foot and never stay in one location for longer than a week. They are excellent tanners and sell the finest hide),
The Kalir (An Araati Sea tribe that blur the line between nomad and bandit. They live on boats and commit acts of piracy to make a living. Sometimes it’s obvious when their goods pop up at a trading hub.
The Hamayasi are followers of Nomadism. They are converts from the big cities that seek a more peaceful life. They don't trade, or have anything of interest to offer, except some excellent stories about war, government, the arts, celebrities...
The Tyressi Family, or rather, dynasty, own a large swathe of land encompassing the entire Gurapasa Peninsula. Aside from the city of Gura, the state is largely comprised of peasant villages who produce large amounts of vegetables and grain that grow beautifully due to the rich, sandy soil and temperate climate.
It is a flat land with marshes at the peninsula tip; therefore it is also ideal for growing rice. The Tyressi family have historically grown their fortune by supplying food and grain reliably during shortage or famine in other areas of Gūr. However, they have small and weak reserves of metal and metal working skill/craft. They mostly rely on other regions to import raw materials, skill and weapons to upkeep their army which is by far the largest in Gūr.
Weapons possessed by those lower in status are strictly forbidden and constitutes a crime under Tyressi demand.
The Iberiti Coalition is a collection of small settlements, governed by a congress with a representative from each of the 10 settlements that banded together after the kingdom of Iru collapsed due to the rebel against serfdom after the Prophet Evha enlightened the people. The kingdom was known to be the most oppressive and brutal regime on the atoll of Gūr, and so was most impacted by the enlightenment. However former influence still exists amongst members of the Order of Iru-Seva, a pro Iru Kingdom cult formed to push back against the enlightenment.
Being situated in the biggest landmass on the atoll, formed by purely volcanic activity, the Iberiti Coalitions larger central states of Ibre and Guva largely produce processed strong volcanic hardwoods and rich, complex wines and cheese, whilst the outer regions are known for their vast mines of gold and silver, and direct link to the inner sea for trade.
Iru worshipped only its brutal king Urush. There were 12 Urush's throughout Iruian history. Each Heir took a vow to fulfil the same brutal regime as their predecessor, leading to a never-ending hell for over a thousand years before the enlightenment.
The Kingdom of Sumurta survived the enlightenment due to its rapid response to the new desires of the people of Gūr. They adopted, almost immediately the teachings of Evha and immortalised her as a Saint, Saint Evha. They even ordered a 300-year construction and planning project to build the biggest city on Gūr, to be named after her and to become the new capital of Sumurta. Additionally, they went as far as to form a constitution, adhered to by the king, based on her teachings.
Sumurta is known as the capital of knowledge, poetry, arts and scholarship. Their biggest export are skilled economists and traders, visionaries and astronomers, students of the performing arts, architects, sculptures and painters. Despite being more detached from the enlightenment than the Iberiti coalition, their lack of societal crumbling and maintenance of wealth, meant the people prospered in the light of her teachings as they happened, instead of having to fight back against an angry oppressor first.
The Sumurtan capital is called Evha
Motivated looters, killers and low lives. Their numbers had dwindled since the enlightenment, but they aren't fully gone, it's like someone is paying them to stick around...
The inner sea is named the Araati Sea. Araati is the second and last Evhani saint, he reached sainthood after sacrificing himself to the then Urushi Sea as a protest against the trading of Tyressi and Nomad slaves that was not outlawed by any nation, in spite of the strict word of Evha.
: Irushi, Selk and Tryvei are brutally cold across the whole region. They are known as months of gods anger as its they only way to answer the brutal cold across the desert regions that are otherwise sweltering. This is a period of brutal rain and sleet, nothing grows... except Tyressi Mudrice which thrives in the monsoon like conditions.
Mevi, Strati and Merti are the equivalent of spring on earth they are quite rainy and fresh months, warming by the end. Most everything is in season to grow here, and Gur has an abundance of food, fresh and stored to sell. So, prices tend to lower.
Menvaal and seurlai are months of transition, this tends to be the harvest period for the rest of gur's largest crops (wheat & barley). Everything else has been harvested at this point.
umuril, vaavak and veritrill are 3 months of brutal heat and shifting sands. Ore becomes easier to mine, yet any trade other than oceanic grinds to a halt and crossing through the desert becomes next to impossible. They only way to send caravans is slowly, through the temperate forests that run down the middle of the atolls ring. Even then, some areas become unreachable by land, so sea trade is the only option.
Irushi, Selk and Tryvei make up the season of Gra
Mevi Strati and Merti make up the season of Bil
Menvaal and Seurlai make up the season of Tre
and Umuril, vaavak and veritrill make up the season of Han
These four seasons are named after the four ancient Iruian gods of the torment, growth, prosperity and death.
The calendar is still dominantly Iruian as the Evhani calendar is still being adopted. The Iruian calendar goes from month 1 to 12: Irushi, Selk, Tryvei, Mevi, Strati, Metri, Urul, Menvaal, Seurlai, Umuril, Vaavak and Veritrill.
Each of these months are counted in 31 days, i.e. Irushi 11th, Irushi 31st, Selk 1st...
Each Iruian month is named after the birth name of each Iruian king (before the adoption of the name Urush 1-12 upon taking the throne)
The Evhani calendar differs as it detracts from a rigid system designed to increase production and instead focuses on simply listing numerically all the days in the year. The names for each day vary from the individual as they instead are asked to say thanks or sincerities to one person they feel deserves it each day. This is the largest reason why the Iruian calendar is still in use to the present, as it may be a reminder of the brutal past, but it is at least functional on an international bureaucratic/administrative basis! The Evhani calendar would be impossible to use in that sense.
The currency varies across each region. The Iberiti accept the currency from all other factions, but as they are a loose coalition with a fledgeling central government - they have yet to form a solid connection between mine, forge and mint with trustworthy & accountable employees, and so elect to trade in common goods and metals backed by the value of the Sumurtan Graal.
The Sumurtans have the Graal. The Graal is backed by the value of gold (which generally is only commercially mined in Sumurta) and is accepted as a standard currency across the entire atoll.
The Tyressi trade in both Tyra and Graal. Tyra is a bronze coin, with a fixed value that is re-determined based on the national Tyressi economy every year. It is only used for internal trade between the peasant villages as a means of controlling the peasants by denying them from possessing wealth that can be accepted internationally. Effectively the Tyra has no raw value outside of the villages.
The Graal in the Tyressi Family Land is used for trading between the upper classes or on foreign excursions.
Tyressi nationals below a certain status that possess Graal can be punished to years in prison or death by drowning.
The Nomads trade in Graal and general goods.
The bandits do not trade! Unless the player somehow manages to enter good standing with the bandits, then they will trade in goods and Graal.
